Texas shortstop Alex Rodriguez hit two more homers Sunday night, giving him five in two games to tie a major league record, and the Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays.

Rodriguez homered three times Saturday and once Friday against Toronto to give him and AL record-tying six homers in three games. He has a major league-leading 44 homers, one more than Sammy Sosa.

AL West-leading Seattle acquired right-hander Ismael Valdes in a trade with the Texas Rangers. The deal was announced during the seventh inning of the Mariners' win over Roger Clemens and New York at Safeco Field.

Valdes, who turns 29 on Wednesday, was 6-9 with a 3.93 ERA in 23 starts for the Rangers.
