BOX; SATURDAY TWINS 6, INDIANS 2

Matt Kinney pitched into the seventh inning in his first appearance in 1 1/2 years, and Minnesota sent Cleveland to its fifth straight loss.

Torii Hunter and Doug Mientkiewicz hit solo homers for the Twins, who have won the first two games of the three-game series.

Minnesota had lost 18 of 23 to the Indians coming into this series.

Kinney (1-0) allowed two hits through six innings. He left with one out in the seventh after Milton Bradley's solo homer.

Ryan Drese (2-1) gave up five runs, seven hits and two walks in 5 2-3 innings.

Rick Reed had his most effective outing of the season, helping Minnesota complete a three-game sweep of Cleveland.

The Twins finished an 8-1 homestand while the Indians ended up 0-6 on their road trip.

Reed (2-1) gave up Jim Thome's two-run homer over 6 1-3 innings as the Twins answered a four-game sweep by the Indians last weekend at Jacobs Field. Eddie Guardado pitched the ninth for his eighth save in as many chances.

The Twins tagged Chuck Finley (1-2) for 10 hits over six innings.

Pinch-hitter Greg Myers hit a three-run homer off Troy Percival (0-1) in the bottom of the ninth inning to win it for Oakland.

It was Oakland's first game-ending home run since Rickey Henderson did it on May 9, 1995. Eric Chavez and Scott Hatteberg also homered for the A's.

Ichiro Suzuki tripled twice and scored two runs as Seattle overcame two home runs by Alex Rodriguez in his former ballpark to defeat Texas.

Rodriguez homered twice in a game for the 22nd time in his career, and the second time against Seattle. But Rodriguez's offense wasn't enough, as the Rangers dropped to 5-13 for the team's worst start.

WHITE SOX 11, TIGERS 8

Jose Valentin homered during an eight-run burst in the first, and pinch-hitter Ray Durham delivered a tiebreaking single in the seventh for the White Sox in Chicago.

The White Sox led 8-3 after the first, and it was tied at 8 after the fourth.

Bobby Higginson homered, doubled and drove in four runs for Detroit, which dropped to 1-8 on the road. The White Sox won for the 10th time in 12 games.

Antonio Osuna (3-0) had 1 2-3 perfect innings of relief, and Keith Foulke pitched the ninth for his fifth save. Jose Paniagua (0-1) took the loss.

Roger Clemens was dominating Sunday in New York, and so was Alfonso Soriano.

Clemens (2-2) took a one-hit shutout into the eighth inning and Soriano hit his second leadoff homer in five days, powering the New York Yankees over the Toronto Blue Jays 9-2.

Jason Giambi, booed when he fouled out in the sixth, hit his fourth homer of the season in the eighth.

Second game

Johnny Damon highlighted his huge weekend by hitting a grand slam as the Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals to complete a doubleheader sweep.

Facing the team he played for from 1995-2000, Damon went 8-for-13, scored seven runs and drove in six during the series. He had four hits as Boston finished up the three-game sweep.
