J.C. Romero (6-1) pitched the 10th for the win, walking one and striking out one.
The AL Central-leading Twins won despite being held to five hits for the second straight game. Minnesota came into the game with the highest batting average in the majors (.303).

MARINERS 5, TIGERS 2
Bret Boone hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning as the Mariners beat Detroit for Seattle's first three-game home sweep of the Tigers in 13 years.
Boone hit his 15th homer of the season on the first pitch he saw from starter Brian Powell (1-1). The two-out shot to the right-field bleachers scored Carlos Guillen, who led off with a single, and John Olerud, who walked with two outs before Boone came to the plate.
Boone now has three homers and 14 RBIs since the All-Star break after struggling in the first half of the season. He was 0-for-5 in Tuesday's 5-4 win.

Tim Wakefield pitched five scoreless innings and the Boston Red Sox scored both of their runs on sacrifice flies as they beat Anaheim to tie the Angels in the AL wild card race.
Wakefield (5-3) allowed five hits over five innings, struck out five and walked one for his 99th career victory. The knuckleballer improved to 3-1 as a starter this season.
Nomar Garciaparra and Brian Daubach hit sacrifice flies to account for Boston's runs as the Red Sox won the series 2-1.
Boston moved within four games of the New York Yankees in the East and improved its major league-leading road record to 35-19.
Anaheim dropped two games behind first-place Seattle in the West, losing for the third time in its last five games.
Red Sox reliever Alan Embree, who took the loss Monday night in his first appearance after coming off the disabled list, gave up Troy Glaus' homer in the eighth.
