Boy injured in lawnmower mishap

From staff reports

A 4-year-old rural Rochester boy was injured when he was partially run over by a riding lawnmower Sunday.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Department said the boy, Wesley Alex Hunter Ryan, ran up behind a lawnmower driven by his grandfather, Kenneth Otto Bedtka, who backed up, not knowing his grandson was there. The boy's leg was caught under the mower, and his leg and foot were injured. He was taken to the hospital by Mayo helicopter, officials said.

A Mayo Clinic spokeswoman said the boy was in fair condition this morning in Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of 75th Street Northeast.
