Boys Basketball | Rushford-Peterson 50, Fillmore Central 42

Rushford-Peterson is back at it again.

The Trojans, who had a rare losing regular season, is winning again in the playoffs. The Trojans will go after their 11th subsection championship in the past 12 years at 5:30 p.m. Friday when they take on No. 2 seed Spring Grove. R-P knocked out top seed Fillmore Central 50-42 Monday in the Section One, Class A East Subsection semifinals at Mayo Civic Arena.

Fillmore Central had beaten R-P in both their regular-season matchups. But Monday was a different story behind the stellar backcourt play of R-P’s Justin Rasmussen and Kasey Olloff. That duo controlled Fillmore Central’s vaunted out-front pressure defense, as the Trojans stayed poised and in control from start to finish. R-P also rode a strong inside performance from 6-foot-1 center Cayle Pich, who finished with 19 points, many of them thanks to deft passes from teammates.

Fillmore Central was led by Levi Olstad with 13 points and Jordan Jarland with 12.
