Breland, Westergaardwill play for Yellowjackets


Rochester Community and Technical College women’s basketball coach Steve Hucke has announced his signees for the 2007-2008 season, which includes a pair of guards from Rochester, Ashley Westergaard of Mayo and Anne Breland of Lourdes.

Breland graduated from Lourdes last year but did not play collegiately during the 2006-2007 season.

The Yellowjackets are coming off a 19-9 season, finishing as runner–up to Anoka-Ramsey in the Minnesota Community College state tournament. RCTC finished 7-2 in the Southern Division of the MCCC.

"We are extremely excited about this year’s recruiting class,’’ Hucke said. "We will have top–notch players at each position and depth in all positions.’’


"Anoka-Ramsey has set the bar high and we feel that we are going to be able to be more competitive next season.’’

The RCTC signees include Cori Robinson, a 6-foot post from Triton; Courtney Jones, 5-7 guard from Kingsland; Amanda Degnan, 5-11 forward from St. Charles; Hannah Glor, 5-11 post from Lanesboro; Melissa Streit, 5-7 guard from Maple River; Jenna Anderson, 5-9 forward from Washburn (Wis.); Kendra Heitkamp, 5-8 guard from Rosemount; Kristina Thompson, 5-9 forward from Elk River; Leah Peterson, 6-0 post from Lewiston-Altura; Erin and Megan Maurer, both 5-8 forwards from McLeod and Breland, a 5-11 guard and Westergaard, a 5-7 guard.
