Marat Safin lost his temper and his quarterfinal at the St. Petersburg Open, getting surprised by seventh-seeded Michael Llodra 6-4, 6-1 after protesting a line call. The top-seeded Safin wasted two break points at 4-4 in first set. At deuce, chair umpire Carlos Bernardos was unable to rule on a shot by Llodra and ordered the point to be replayed. Safin started arguing, insisting that the ball was out and that it had left a mark on the court. The point was replayed, and Llodra wound up holding serve to lead 5-4.
