Bruce H. VanSickle -- Oronoco

ORONOCO -- A memorial service for Bruce H. VanSickle will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Douglas Sparks officiating.

Mr. VanSickle, 48, of Oronoco, a letter carrier, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 2004) at Saint Marys Hospital following a short illness with cancer.

Born Aug. 31, 1956, in Lansing, Mich., he graduated from Rochester John Marshall High School in 1974 and then served in the Marines until 1976. On March 24, 1979, he married Linda Sue Hatcher in Rochester. She is an executive assistant at Mayo Clinic. Mr. VanSickle had been employed at the Rochester post office since 1983. He served on the Oronoco City Council before becoming mayor in 2003, served on the Rochester Youth Baseball Board of Directors, and was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Pine Island Sportsman's Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jason and Cody, both of Oronoco; his mother, Lois VanSickle of Rochester; a sister, Sally (Thomas) Yaeger of Madison, Wis.; and a brother, Gary (Barb) VanSickle of St. Paul. His father preceded him in death.

Ranfranz &; Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Rochester Park and Recreation Department for a skateboard park.
