The people voted, and Rochester's Tonic Fresh Juices & Local Foodwas named the best juice bar in Minnesota in a poll conducted by WCCO-TV.
The Twin Cities TV station asked their viewers where to get the freshest glass of juice in the state, and they answered by pointing to Nicci Sylvester's Tonic, at 1217 Second St. SW, directly across from Saint Marys Hospital.
The station visited the restaurant early this week and aired a segment on Tonic on Thursday.
WCCO reporter Natalie Nyhushad this to say about the small eatery with a focus on fresh juice and food. "Tonic is a sanctuary in a busy world, and in a town that feels the strain of ailments and disease," she wrote.
Sylvester opened Tonic in 2013. It offers a cold-pressed juice bar and organically grown food.
She told WCCO, "My interactions with people are real. People need something real and need to feel like they are cared about. And I thought that would be the difference in my success with this place. I really care that you're here … Of course it's about the juice and the ingredients, the best of the organic and sustainable. That's all important stuff, but it's about the connections that we make here in Rochester."
In 2014, Sylvester took over management of a downtown juice bar, Essential Juicein the First Avenue Food Court. It was re-branded as Essential Cold-press Juices and Tonic Too. That move brought the taste of Tonic to the downtown Rochester lunch crowd. — Jeff Kiger
