Unions that represent 2,500 Hormel Foods Corp. workers in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Georgia approved a new four-year contract this week.
Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 9 in Austin, Local 6 in Algona, Iowa, Local 1473, in Beloit, Wis., and Local 1996 in Atlanta "overwhelmingly" approved the new contract after 13 weeks of negotiations with the Austin-based food giant.
All employees under the new contract will receive wage increases.
UFCW union leaders released a statement saying the new contract "strengthens wages, protects and expands healthcare, and protects and increases pensions for Hormel workers across the country."
“By strongly voting for a new contract that improves wages and benefits, thousands of our hardworking members sent a powerful message this week about the power that comes from workers standing together," the statement said.
The contract follows a four-year agreement that ran from 2015 to this fall.
