Byron teenager faces theft charges

From staff reports

A Byron teenager faces several charges, including theft of a pickup from Rochester Ford/Toyota, after he allegedly stole the truck, backed it into a building at the dealership, ran away, came back and drove away.

Rochester police said a couple looking at cars heard a crash and saw the truck had been backed into the building about 10:24 p.m. Friday. They also saw the youth run away, come back and drive away. They called police on a cell phone and the husband waited at the dealership on U.S. 52 near 55th Street Northwest to tell police what happened while his wife followed the truck and relayed information on her cell phone to police.

Police and the State Patrol stopped the truck on U.S. 14 West near Olmsted County Road 104.

The 15-year-old was taken to the juvenile detention area, where he is awaiting charges.
