Catherine Sackett -- St. Charles

ST. CHARLES -- A funeral Mass for Catherine Sackett will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles.

Mrs. Sackett, 97, of St. Charles, died Monday (Oct. 11, 2004) at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.

Catherine Palmby was born Nov. 15, 1906, in Henning, Minn., moved to the Dover area as a small child and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1926. On April 14, 1931, she married Layton Sackett in St. Charles. She worked with her husband at Greenway Co. and later worked for Clover Apartments until entering Whitewater Healthcare Center in August 1996. Her husband died Aug. 21, 1992. Mrs. Sackett was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and its St. Ann's and St. Jude's Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, making afghans and playing cards.

Survivors include three sons, James (Phyllis) of Anaheim, Calif., Kenneth (Marilyn) of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Keith (Joyce) of St. Charles; a daughter, Kathleen (Benjamin) Ellsworth of Rochester; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Riesdorf of St. Charles. A grandchild, a brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes-St. Charles Chapel, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and a Christian prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
