Charles Joseph Thompson -- Austin

AUSTIN -- A funeral Mass for Charles Joseph Thompson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. William Becker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Mr. Thompson, 90, of Austin, a retired railroad employee, died of cancer Friday (July 18, 2003) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

He was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Austin, grew up here and attended St. Augustine schools. During World War II he served in the Army as an engineer on the Iranian state railroad. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Louise Dorothy Bellrichard and they lived in Austin. She died March 13, 1987. He married Bueta Sweazey Feb. 14, 1993, at Queen of Angels Church in Austin. Mr. Thompson was an engineer on the railroad out of Austin for many years. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping and bowling. He was a member of Queen of Angels Church, the American Legion and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Darlene Exline of Denver; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters; a stepson; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 22 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mayer Funeral Home and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church. There will be wake service at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
