Charles W. Evans -- La Crescent

LA CRESCENT -- The funeral for Charles W. Evans will be 1 p.m. Saturday at South Ridge United Methodist Church in rural La Crescent, with the Rev. Lora Sturm officiating. The body was cremated. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in La Crescent at a later date.

Mr. Evans, 68, of La Crescent, a retired truck driver, died Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2002) at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.

Born Jan. 21, 1934, in Money Creek, he graduated from Houston High School in 1951 and from Winona State College in 1966. He taught at La Crescent High School for two years, operated Evans Orchard for seven years and was an over-the-road truck driver for 24 years. On Oct. 25, 1952, he married Amy Carlson at the South Ridge EUB parsonage in rural La Crescent. He was a member of South Ridge United Methodist Church and served on the church board.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark of Hokah and Jon of Coral Springs, Fla.; two grandsons; and a sister, Lois (Ivan) McElhiney of La Crescent.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.


Memorials are suggested to South Ridge United Methodist Church or Valley View Nursing Home.
