Cheese Festival, Volksfset coming up

This weekend’s fairs will include the Cheese Festival in Pine Island and Volksfest in Goodhue.

Here are upcoming events in southeast Minnesota:

• Pine Island Cheese Festival:

Thursday through Sunday in Pine Island. Car show, Miss Pine Island coronation, fireworks, midway, parades, variety show, baseball game, music performances, historical society events, food vendors and more. Tickets and information at Pine Island Bank or call city hall.


Pine Island Pool and Pins will host a co-ed sand volleyball tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday. The courts opened this summer, along with an outdoor patio.

• Adams Dairy Days:

Friday to Sunday in Adams. Street dance, citywide rummage sales, beanbag tournament, children’s pedal pull, water fights, bike trail dedication, Civil War reenactments, parade, food, games, entertainment and more. For more information, call (507) 582-7825.

• Volksfest:

Friday to Sunday in Goodhue. Quilt show, musical entertainment, carnival, children’s activities, contests, bingo, road rally, breakfast, donkey races, watermelon feed and more. Some events require button, $5, children 5 and younger free. For more information, visit

• Fountain Trail Days:

Saturday in Fountain. Softball, volleyball, tractor pull, beer tent, Misfit Toys, DJ, parade at 3 p.m., pedal pull and 5K run. For more information, contact Andrea at (507) 259-8488.

• Plein Air on the Zumbro:


Saturday in Zumbrota. Hosted by Crossings at Carnegie Art Center. Quick draw juried event at Zumbrota covered bridge from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with prizes. Entry fee is $20. • Viola Gopher Count:

June 17 and 18 in Viola. Talent show, run and walk, grand parade, soap box derby, royalty, contests, dances, musical performances, rides and more. For more information, visit

• Annual Spring Valley Historical Society Ice Cream Social:

• Covered Bridge Music and Arts Festival:

June 19 to 21 in Elgin. The event features parade, carnival, food, music and more.

• 86th Annual High Forest Old Settlers:

June 20 and 21 in High Forest. Fishing contest, canoe race, concessions, children’s activities, beer tent, tractor pull and more. A $3 button needed to attend events, available from any High Forest candidate or by calling 533-8764. Purchasing a button enters participants into a cash drawing.
