Smoke billowed out of a Rochester restaurant early today from a fire that caused extensive damage inside the business.

Firefighters were called to China Dynasty, 701 S. Broadway, at 12:19 a.m. and remained there until 5:45 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Steve Belau.

Fire officials have determined that the fire started inside the restaurant, but they haven’t identified a cause yet, Belau said.

According to Belau, the interior of the restaurant was damaged by fire and smoke. There also was damage to portions of the roof. Thirty firefighters responded, said Dan Slavin, deputy chief.

Three 911 calls were received from people who noticed smoke coming from the rear of the building.
