FOUNTAIN — Leaders of Root Prairie Lutheran Church near Fountain are offering a $2,500 reward to help locate vandals who damaged the interior of the church last month. The church council has authorized the reward.
The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the May 28 break-in. Anyone with information should call Sheriff Daryl Jensen or an investigator at (507) 765-3874.
The vandalism was particularly vicious. Pews were thrown from a balcony to the main floor below; stained glass windows were broken; an 1898 painting over the church’s altar was slashed multiple times; and anti-Christian messages were painted in the lower level hall.
No one has been arrested. Fillmore County investigators have conducted interviews, and the investigation "is going the right direction," the sheriff said this morning.
