Ohio St. RB faces long suspension

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel finally took a firm stand with Maurice Clarett.
Clarett's chances of playing football for Ohio State this season now appear slim after Tressel announced Tuesday the sophomore tailback is facing a long suspension and would no longer be allowed to practice with the defending national champions.
"It appears to me without having seen anything official or anything black and white, indications are that the suspension is going to be significant, it's going to be long," Tressel said. "The decision I talked about with some of our staff this morning was that until we get a definitive decision there, I don't think I'm going to have him practice. It's just a coaching decision."

OSU Director of Athletics Andy Geiger painted a grim picture of Clarett's football future at Ohio State.
Asked if Clarett might miss the entire season, Geiger said: "I'm not optimistic we can salvage very many games. I think he will have his scholarship; he will have an opportunity to go to school."
