Jim Thome, the most coveted hitter in the free-agent market, agreed to a six-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Thome, who hit a club-record 52 homers for the Cleveland Indians last season, accepted a deal worth about $87.5 million, an official said on the condition of anonymity.
For the deal to become final, Thome must pass a physical.
