MANTORVILLE — A new season of Mantorville melodramas opens Friday at the Mantorville Opera House and runs through Sept. 12.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens. For reservations, call 507-635-5420.

— "Double Trouble in Soda, South Dakota, or The Two Sides of Sheriff Tom," by Denise Ruemping, Friday through July 5.
A mysterious stranger arrives in town just as the loyal sheriff has oddly disappeared. But the crew at the general store notices something familiar about this stranger.

— "For Whatever It's Worth, or Of Love and Lack Thereof," by Rachel Soland, July 10 through July 26.
Actors Lance Lackworth and Oscar Noble compete for the hand of Miss Fallon Love in this backstage melodrama.
— "One Last Train to Nowhere, or The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men are Derailed at the Junction," by Cheryl Frarck, July 31 through Aug. 16.
A classic western melodrama featuring Roue "Sure Shot" Runamuk, Sirena Scattergood, Tucker D. Fortune, Cologne DePeu, the Pony Express, truth, justice and the American Way.
— "Mary Goes for the Gold, or Pick My Flowers, Please," by Sandra Hennings Miller, Aug. 21 through Sept. 12.
A local contest to pick the town flower gets nasty when Mr. Regal tries to exterminate all competition for his roses. This story of the power of the little marigold is timed to coincide with Mantorville's annual Marigold Days celebration.
The Mantorville Opera House was built in 1918, has 160 seats, and is said to be haunted. But don't let that keep you away. Long-time melodrama fans say even the ghosts take part in the booing and cheering.
— Want to get involved beyond sitting in the audience? The Mantorville Theatre Company is seeking actors, directors and music directors for the 2015-2016 season of (non-melodrama) shows.
