Just a short note for taxpayers in District 5, which consists of the townships of Kalmar and Cascade, the city of Byron and the northwest quarter of the city of Rochester.
About a week ago I was approached by a couple of residents from District 5. Their concern was what appeared to be some negative statements I had made about the near future of our local county and city governments' ability to get funding from the state, which was no problem until last year, because of state funding issues.
They had stated that they were sure because of the cuts made to local government aid last year that things would be back to normal as regarding the money Olmsted County and the city of Rochester receive from the state. I had said no, the state has bigger responsibilities to take care of; like health care, education, jobs, transportation and early childhood needs.
Local government aid will be way down the list of things state government will do, and just possibly, because last year we got along with little or no state funds, they will tell us, you made it by the past year, you may not need any at all.

The question I have for you; is this being negative or is this reality? You decide for yourself. By the way, be sure to vote. The taxpayer's money being spent is yours.
Jim Daley is running for election to the District 5 seat on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners.
