From staff reports
The Department of Natural Resources will use helicopters to count deer in Fillmore, Houston and Wabasha counties between Monday and March 31.
The area includes deer permit areas 342, 347 and 349.
Exactly when the counts will happen depends on weather.
The aerial count is one tool the DNR uses to evaluate how many deer there are so it can set the number of permits to hunt antlerless deer. The DNR also looks at the number of deer registered and other data.

It has been many years since the three permit areas were evaluated by air.
