It has been my honor and privilege to serve as state representative for District 29A these past two years. I have to admit that the job is not always fun, but I derive great satisfaction and gratification working for the public good. Whether it's helping to craft needed legislation, being a watchdog for my constituents, helping an individual with a state-related issue, or just listening to people's concerns. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve.
I am seeking re-election because I believe that I accurately reflect the hopes, beliefs, and aspiration of the people in this area. We want fewer mandates, less government intervention, and an environment that promotes economic prosperity. We want good, safe schools, responsive and reliable public safety and clean, efficient transportation. As issues are debated and wrestled with, we need thoughtful consideration given to all sides, and decisions made that offer balance and fairness between conflicting stakeholders. I have worked very hard to be open and responsive, while remaining consistent in the application of my values and beliefs when making decisions on behalf of the people I represent. The legislature is a melting pot of ideas and attitudes, and I believe that I have been a voice in that mix that my district and this area can be proud of.
In the coming biennium, I look forward to continuing our efforts to correct the structural imbalance in our state budget, striving for meaningful reform in education funding and student performance outcomes, and implementing initiatives and reform to improve our health care system and stem rapidly rising costs. I strongly believe that business prosperity, with resulting growth in jobs and income, are the key to ongoing prosperity in Minnesota. Here in southeast Minnesota we are blessed with vibrant health care, technology, and agricultural industries and I will continue working to create a state environment that allows them to flourish.
As a lifelong area resident, 25-year business owner and farmer, and 10-year school board member, I believe I have the experience and perspective needed to provide the meaningful representation in state government that our area needs and deserves. I will continue to be accessible, to listen, to be honest and open, and to deliberate the issues with fairness and balance. I would appreciate your vote on Nov. 2, so that I may continue working to make our great state even better to live, work, and raise a family.
