COL Thompson well versed in the job

By Jeff Thompson

My name is Jeff Thompson and I have proudly represented District 7 as county commissioner for the past eight years. My decision to run for the county board is based on the pride I have in Olmsted County and the belief that my individual efforts can make a difference for our community.

I am a lifelong resident with family roots dating back 85 years. My grandfather, Bennett Whynaucht, was a Longfellow school board member for 20 years. He was a firm believer in the importance of civic and community involvement and in neighbors helping neighbors. Beliefs and traditions that my wife, Cyndy, and I feel will create a better community and a more livable environment for our four children as well as all families of Olmsted County.

As a 47-year resident I am well acquainted with the issues concerning District 7 and our county community. I have talked with many rural and city residents and believe that I have an understanding of both their needs and concerns. I will do my utmost to continue to balance these needs and concerns in a manner that is fair and will lead to continued growth and prosperity.

Because of the recent redistricting of the county, my district has substantially changed. My new district now consists of New Haven, Oronoco, Farmington, Cascade, Haverhill and Marion townships as well as the city of Oronoco, the southern areas of Pine Island and sections of northeast and southeast Rochester. To those of you who do not know me, I extend a personal invitation to get acquainted and discuss concerns. I will happily answer any questions you have and wish to assure you that I will continue my policy of accessibility.

Government decisions are only as wise as the community input behind them. Citizen involvement is important and ultimately results in the best policies. Therefore, I will work hard to ensure that citizens who wish to participate in county government through advisory committees, as task force members, or focus groups will be included.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue serving as your commissioner. Thank you for your consideration and I ask for your continued support.

Jeff Thompson is running for re-election to the District 7 seat on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners.
