Cold weather dooms local events

There were a couple of events on the local sports calendar scheduled for Tuesday, but they were both called off due to the cold weather.

The Austin boys and girls track teams were supposed to compete at the Albert Lea Time Trials on Tuesday at Hammer Field. The preseason time trials were scratched, and the regular season is now set to open Thursday with a trip to Wells for the United South Central Invitational.

Riverland baseball also had its opener in the Minnesota Community College Conference South Division called off. The Blue Devils were supposed to play a doubleheader at Willmar against the Ridgewater Warriors, but that has been tentatively rescheduled for Monday afternoon.

The Blue Devils are still hoping to host their tournament on Friday and Saturday at Dick Seltz Field. Riverland is scheduled to play Anoka-Ramsey at 1 p.m. Friday and then follow with a game against Central Lakes of Brainerd.
