The NCAA does itself and college athletes no favors by authorizing additional games. Wisconsin, Nebraska and Florida State all began the season Saturday with so-called special games.
Remember when the college season was 10 games and a bowl game for select teams? That was before college football powerhouses became money-making machines. Now, there are just too many games. That puts too much pressure on college-athletes.
That's not to say most college programs had sterling graduation rates among football players before.
The NCAA should back off, and reduce the number of games so athletes have a better opportunity of doing well in the classroom. There's no reason for August football games. Well, there is, and it has everything to do with the cash register.
