The final concert of this year’s Festival of Music series at First Presbyterian Church will feature a program by Lee Afdahl, the church’s director of music and organist.
In the concert titled "Of Peace and Patriotism," Afdahl will be joined by Jeremy Braun on percussion, Allan Dale on violin, soprano Cynthia Dario-Good, Nancy Osteraas on flute, Robert Scoggin on organ and Jennifer Taylor on oboe. Also performing during the concert will be the ensemble Classic Brass, whose members are Ellington Bandel, Warren Bandel, Eric Straubmuller, Steve Williams and Greg Zent.
This Paul Leonard Memorial concert opens with an instrumental version of "The Star Spangled Banner" and is followed by variations on that theme set for organ. All the music in the program reflects the themes of peace and patriotism and includes music by American composers Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, and Irving Berlin.
The concert is at 4 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Third St. S.W. in Rochester.
Admission is free. A freewill offering will be collected. A reception to greet the artists will follow the performance.
