New duo to perform at Crossings

ZUMBROTA — Dusty Heart, the duo of Barbara Jean and Molly Dean , will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Crossings at Carnegie, 320 East Ave., Zumbrota.

The two singer/songwriters opened some shows last summer in Colorado for Trampled by Turtlesmembers Dave Simonetteand Dave Carroll, and decided to give their new musical partnership the name Dusty Heart.

Barbara Jean has been based on the North Shore for the past decade, mastering the banjo and fiddle, and appearing on NPR's "Mountain Stage" program. Her latest album is "Darker Than Blue." Dean has just finished recording a new album and audiences can expect to hear those new songs in concert.

Suchy leaves Dakota behind for Oak Center concert

OAK CENTER — Chuck Suchy, the rancher who also happens to be a fine singer/songwriter, will return to the Oak Center General Store for a concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 14.

Suchy, who ranches in North Dakota, will likely play tunes from his recent album, "Unraveling Heart."His songs are often about rural and human values, life on the land, and the culture and history of the region. He was born and reared along the Missouri River south of Mandan, N.D., and continues to live and work in that area.

Sheldon to host award-winning Ruthie Foster

RED WING — Blues, rock, folk, soul and gospel — Ruthie Foster will sing it all when she performs at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Sheldon Theatre , 443 W. Third St., Red Wing.

Foster was named Best Female Vocalistin the Austin Music Awards in 2007, 2008 and 2013, and received 2009 and 2013 Grammy nominationsfor Best Contemporary Blues Album. She has received multiple Blues Music Awards and was selected the 2010 Living Blues Music Award for Female Blues Artist of the Year.

Her newest CD is "Promise of a Brand New Day," which has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album

One Voice chorus plans concerts in region

One Voice Mixed Chorus , Minnesota's largest LGBT chorus, will perform in Rochester, Winonaand Red Wingin mid-November.

The concerts will feature songs related to winter traditions, including Christmas, Kwanzaa, Pagan Solstice and others. A freewill offering will be accepted.

The schedule:

— 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13, Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Fifth Ave. SW, Rochester.

— 7 p.m. Nov. 14, Somsen Auditorium, Winona State University.

— 2 p.m. Nov. 15, First Lutheran Church, 615 W. Fifth St., Red Wing.

Brassy benefit for Channel One planned

The Brassworks brass quintetwill perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Congregational Church UCC, 974 Skyline Drive SW, Rochester.

The brass group will be joined by the church's bell choir. The concert is a benefit for Channel One Food Shelf. Admission is free, but non-perishable food items or cash contributions to Channel One will be appreciated.
