PEPIN, Wis. -- Winona Cotter took first place Saturday in a four-team softball tournament that included two of the traditionally strongest mid-sized high school teams in Wisconsin.
Cotter defeated Altoona, Wis., 1-0 in 11 innings in the championship.
Last season, Altoona won the Division II state high school championship in Wisconsin, which has three softball divisions.
In the consolation championship game Saturday, perennial power Pepin, Wis., defeated Wabasha-Kellogg 4-1.
Cotter beat W-K 2-0 in the first round. Toni Kujak threw a seven-inning no-hitter for the Ramblers, striking out nine. Megan Kreye went the distance for the Falcons.

Cotter's only two runs came in the first inning.
Against Pepin, Shelley Arens threw seven innings for W-K. The Falcons got six hits in the game but left nine runners on base.
Pepin scored all four of its runs in the first inning.
