Rochester police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars of tools from the former Kemps plant.
Police were called to the building about 7:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of a burglary.
A company doing work at the building reported that sometime between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday, about 11 tools were taken, an estimated loss of thousands of dollars, according to Rochester Police Capt. Casey Moilanen.
There were no signs of forced entry into the building.
A 22-year-old Rochester man was arrested on drug charges after police reportedly found him smoking marijuana in a car parked at the entrance to a local walking and biking trail.
Police were called about 8:30 a.m. Thursday to 3780 Valleyhigh Drive NW, which is an access point for the Douglas Trail, for a report of people smoking marijuana, according to Capt. Casey Moilanen.
When officers arrived, they found two people who appeared to be sleeping in a car. As officers approached the vehicle, they could smell marijuana, according to Moilanen.
When the people inside the vehicle rolled down the windows at the officer's request, the smell only intensified. Both were ordered out of the vehicle. The 22-year-old man had two small bags of cocaine weighing an approximate total of 36 grams, and 13 pills in his pockets, according to Moilanen. The other person in the vehicle, a 23-year-old Rochester man, was released.
The 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of first- and second-degree controlled substance crime.
A 25-year-old Rochester man was caught on surveillance cameras burglarizing units at a Southeast Rochester storage facility.
Rochester police arrested the man on suspicion of third- and second-degree burglary, as well as theft. Police were called to Rochester Indoor Storage, 43 Rockport Lane SE, on Thursday afternoon after at least two storage units there had been burglarized, according to Capt. Casey Moilanen.
Reviewing surveillance footage, officers saw the man entering a unit on Wednesday and taking a laundry basket full of items, Moilanen said. A second video from Thursday showed the man stealing two tires with rims, two additional rims, and a pair of boots from a second unit.
Police located the man at the storage facility, and he allegedly admitted to the theft of the items in the laundry basket, but said he had only gone into the other units because his dog sometimes wanders off. The man reportedly told police he had been sleeping in his storage unit.
