A 2013 Chevy Impala was stolen early Thursday morning after it was left running outside of a residence in the 2800 block of Knollwood Drive Southeast.
The 42-year-old owner told Rochester police he left the car parked in the street warming up between 4:40 and 4:50 a.m. Thursday when it was stolen.
Police believe another vehicle likely drove up and a person got out and then into the vehicle that was left running. Capt. Casey Moilanen said there may be people driving around city and county during the early morning hours looking for people warming up cars.
"If people leave their cars running, they are taking a risk of it being stolen," Moilanen said.
The vehicle had not been recovered as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Three pickups parked at a Rochester business had catalytic converters stolen sometime in the last week.
The catalytic converters on three 2014 Ford F150s parked at Braun Intertec, 4210 U.S. Highway 14 East, were taken sometime between Feb. 8 and Feb. 17.
