Culpepper admits uncertainty

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Even Daunte Culpepper is acknowledging his days with the Dolphins likely are numbered.

In an e-mail sent Thursday to select reporters, Culpepper wrote that until earlier this week "it never entered my mind that I wouldn’t be the starting quarterback of the Dolphins this coming season." Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, also expects to become involved with team officials about his standing "sooner rather than later."

"I am sure they will do what is in the best interest of the team," Culpepper wrote.

"While those decisions are being made, I am continuing to do everything I can to prepare to play at the level of expectations of the Dolphins (if they keep me), the NFL fans and most importantly myself."

The Dolphins declined to comment on the e-mail.
