Mr. Rhodes
AUSTIN -- The funeral for Daniel Joseph Rhodes will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Grace Baptist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Gordon Larson officiating. Interment will be in Hoflanda Cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes, 57, died Thursday (Aug. 3, 2006) at his home, after a brief illness with cancer.
He was born July 25, 1949, in Austin, attended Southgate Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School in 1968. He worked at several jobs in his years, including Red Owl Foods, The Red Cedar Inn, Cedar Group Homes as a caregiver, Quality Pork, Elden's IGA Foodliner, Tandem Products and Hy-Vee Foods. He married Mary Freed on June 19, 1993, at the Fellowship United Methodist Church in Austin. Every Saturday, he and his mother would enjoy breakfast, Bible study and long walks together. He enjoyed singing in choirs at the Church of Christ and the Northwestern Singers. In his younger years, he was active in triathlons, biking, church softball leagues, playing piano and swimming.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Hester Rhodes of Austin; two sisters, Nancy (Stephen) Roanhorse of Sanders, Ariz., and April (Tim) Lund of Elk River, Minn.; and three brothers, Lonnie (Susan) of Owatonna, Caleb (Rose) of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Andrew (Audrey) of Bemidji, Minn. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
