ROSE CREEK -- A memorial service for Darrel M. Johnson will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Don Deines officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.
Mr. Johnson, 77, of Rose Creek, died Thursday (Feb. 14, 2002).
He was born July 22, 1924, in Mabel. On May 10, 1946, he married Jarla F. Olson in Lanesboro. Mr. Johnson served in the South Pacific while in the military. He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 1382 and the VFW and a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon (David) Kasten of LeRoy, and Pamela Meling and Cynthia Graham, both of Austin; two sons, Rick of Austin and Randy of Milwaukee; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene (Ione) of Austin. A daughter, a granddaughter, four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
