Deutschman's slam lifts Saints

St. Charles' Michael Deutschman belted a grand slam in the sixth inning, turning a close game into a 14-4 rout over Chatfield in Three Rivers Conference baseball.

The Saints trailed 4-3 in the fourth inning. The made up for that by scoring eight runs in the sixth.

Paul McKay was the winning pitcher, working the last 2 2/3 innings. Mike Kohn was 2-for-4 from the plate for St. Charles with three RBIs.

St. Charles moved to 6-0 overall.

Byron 15, Stewartville 4 (6 innings)

Byron senior Zach Clemm broke open the game with a two-out grand slam in the second inning. The Bears scored three more in the inning to go up 7-0. Stewartville came back to score four in the bottom of the second inning but got no closer. Sophomore Matt Storlie pitched a complete game, with five strikeouts and one walk, and giving up six hits.

The Bears' Joe Koenig got two hits with a double and two RBIs, and Adam Schroeder stroked three singles. Isaac Johnson and Mike Poch got two hits each for the Tigers (5-4, 2-3 HVL).

NON-CONFERENCE

Triton 12, Waseca 2

Triton feasted on Waseca pitching for 17 hits, with Trevor Kispert going 4-for-5 to lead the hit parade. Phil Gray added three hits for Triton. The Cobras scored five runs in the seventh on five hits to seal the win. Triton sophomore Britton Wolf was the winning pitcher, with eight strikeouts, one walk and five hits in seven complete innings. Waseca committed five errors.

Elgin-Millville 9, Houston 1

Elgin-Millville improved to 5-3 overall with the win at Houston.
