BOONE — Dick Thompson, 81, co-founder of Practical Farmers of Iowa and a sustainable farming advocate, died Aug. 17.
The funeral was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug, 21, with a luncheon following. Both were at Central Christian Church, 803 Greene St., in Boone.
Visitation was scheduled for 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at 6th and Marshall Streets in Boone then at the Church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
Thompson, with his wife, Sharon, and their son Rex and his family, raised cattle, hogs and crops near Boone.

Founding members of Practical Farmers of Iowa in 1985, the Thompsons gave farm tours to thousands of people and also traveled extensively.
