AUSTIN -- The funeral for Donald E. Mellem will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Ronald Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery in rural Austin with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 91.
Mr. Mellem, 70, of Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at Austin Medical Center.
He was born May 8, 1932, in Austin and lived here all his life. He worked in the corporate office of Hormel. Mr. Mellem was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir, was a member of the Sons of Norway, Elks Lodge and American Legion, and was a former member of the Northwestern Singers.
Survivors include four sisters, Doris (Bob) Harber of Blooming Prairie, Carol Whalen of Austin, Beverly (Allan) Adamson of Minneapolis and Patricia (Irv) Johnson of Muskegon, Mich. A sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
