Donald Ross Lloyd — Rochester

ROCHESTER — Donald Ross Lloyd, age 66, of Cleveland, Minn., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, Minn. Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cleveland Church of Christ. The funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Interment will be in the Elim Welsh Cemetery, Sharon Township, Le Sueur County, Minn. St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Don was born Nov. 24, 1942, in St. Peter, to David H. and Beatrice (Rollings) Lloyd. Don was a 1960 Cleveland High School graduate. He graduated from Minnesota Bible College (i.e. Crossroads College) in Rochester with a BA. He received his Masters of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul. He also attended Harvard Divinity School in Boston.

Don married Lois Ann Giersdorf on Aug. 26, 1967, at the Cleveland Church of Christ. Their son, Mark, was born Dec. 3, 1968. Don, with Lois and Mark, farmed three miles north of Cleveland for 10 years, at which point he returned to finish his undergraduate degree at Minnesota Bible College. That time at MBC set the course of the rest of his life as his passion became that of serving the Lord Jesus.

Don ministered at the Horicon Church of Christ, rural Truman, Minn. He served Minnesota Bible College in Rochester, where he taught New Testament Greek and served as the college’s president. Don and Lois established an independent "Leadership Ministries" with its purpose to minister to small churches in the Upper Midwest. Don also worked for Saint Mary’s University–Rochester.

Don’s interests included teaching Bible classes, the Greek language, demographics, the computer, e-mailing friends, singing, having coffee with friends, interacting with college students and with children. He was known for his sense of humor.


Don’s survivors include his wife, Lois of Cleveland, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Laura Lloyd of Oconomowoc, Wis.; brothers, Mel (Monie) of Cleveland, Russ (Judy) of Cleveland and Norman (Kim) of Yorktown Va.; sister, Betty Lloyd of Cleveland; in-laws, Carole Lloyd of Lansing, Mich., Norma Jean and Alern Bendix Jr. of New Ulm, Minn., Linda and Randy Mammenga of Joseph, Ore., Gary and Myra Giersdorf of Longmont, Colo., Gregg (JoLene) Giersdorf of Mankato, Minn., Jim and Cindy Giersdorf of Limon, Colo., and Randy Giersdorf of Greeley, Colo.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, David H. and Beatrice Lloyd; parents-in-law, Lloyd and Alice Giersdorf; brother, Curtis Lloyd; sister and her husband, Ruth and Victor VanLeer; and sister-in-law, Veronica Giersdorf.
