AUSTIN — A memorial service for Dorothy B. Olson will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Mankato, Minn. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Albert Lea.
Mrs. Olson, 49, of West Lake Jefferson, Cleveland, Minn., died Monday (April 7, 2008) at Immanuel-St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato. She had been ill with thymoma, a rare cancer.
She was born May 21, 1958, in Austin. At age 3, she moved with her mother and father, Helen B. and Roger G. Randall, to Albert Lea, where she grew up. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1977. She met her husband, Steven A. Olson, in May 1979, and they moved to Mankato in 1981. They were married July 13, 1985, at First Presbyterian Church in Mankato. Prior to her cancer diagnosis, Mrs. Olson was co-owner of the Town Pump Bar and Lounge in Madison Lake, Minn. She also assisted her husband with their company, Olson Roofing, in Cleveland.
Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Victoria Burt and Stacey (Keith) Michels, both of Mankato, Jennifer (Chris) O’Brien of Hohenwold, Tenn., Alyssa Olson of Cleveland, Minn., Angela Thostenson of Albert Lea and Jessica Abbott of Rosemount, Minn.; a son, Adam of Faribault, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; her father, Roger G. Randall of Albert Lea; her birth father, Allen (Juanita) Rector of Prescott, Ariz.; and nine siblings, Carol (Jay) Jolly, Gail (Steve) Jorgenson, Barbara (Wayne) Thorpe and Penny (Randy) Schultz, all of Albert Lea, Michelle Leonard, James (Dawn) Leonard, Michael Leonard and Roger (Carla) Leonard, all of St. Paul, and Timothy Leonard of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
