RED WING — The funeral for Dorothy Bonde will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac, with the Rev. Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery, Red Wing.
Mrs. Bonde, 80, of Red Wing, died Tuesday (April 8, 2008) at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center.
Dorothy Anna Edna Heins was born May 26, 1927, in Lake City, and attended school in rural Lake City. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Waldo Bonde in Frontenac. She worked at Berlin’s Cafe in Frontenac and later at Red Wing Shoe Co., from which she retired in 1989. Her husband died Sept. 18, 1990.
Mrs. Bonde volunteered with the Fairview Red Wing Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Frontenac. She was also a longtime member and past president of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed needlework and sewing, and had made aprons for her co-workers at the shoe company and Christmas pins for the American Legion. She was also a Twins fan, and enjoyed flower gardening and feeding the hummingbirds.
Survivors include two sons, Michael of Rochester and David (Carol) of Red Wing; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Heins of Red Wing and Robert Heins of South St. Paul; and a sister, Shirley Perkins of Red Wing. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the Fairview Red Wing Hospital Auxiliary, Fairview Red Wing Hospice, or St. John’s Lutheran Church, Frontenac.
