ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Douglas Alan Peterson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ranfranz &; Vine Funeral Homes Chapel in Rochester, with the Rev. Shirley Heeg officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Pine Island Cemetery.

Mr. Peterson, 56, a decorated Vietnam veteran, died Monday (Feb. 20, 2006) at Saint Marys Hospital.

Born Aug. 4, 1949, in Mason City, Iowa, he attended Austin Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School. He later attended Rochester Community College for two years and graduated as a registered nurse. He served two tours in Vietnam with the Army and was awarded the Bronze Star with V-device for valor, the Purple Heart, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. After his active duty, he served in the Army Reserve Medical Corps. He married Deborah Ritter on July 9, 1979, in Rochester, and they later divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Lauren Peterson and Evette Peterson, both of Pine Island; a son, Christopher of Fayetteville, N.C.; his parents, Lloyd and Frances (Van Reenan) Peterson of Austin; a sister, Sherry Peterson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and a brother, Stuart (Jenny) of Palm Springs, Calif. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.


Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ranfranz &; Vine Funeral Homes and an hour before the service Thursday.
