Dr. Frederick L. Rayman Jr. -- Austin

AUSTIN -- Services for Dr. Frederick L. Rayman Jr. will be at a later date. The body was cremated.

Dr. Rayman, 84, of Ely, Minn., formerly of Austin, died Sunday (April 25, 2004) at St. Mary's Hospice in Duluth.

Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Austin, he graduated from Austin High School in 1937 and from the University of Minnesota dental school in 1942. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the Army Medical Corps, and then was an Army Reserve officer until retiring in 1967. In 1945, he married Jacqueline Callies in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death. Dr. Rayman practiced dentistry for 40 years, working in Austin before moving to Ely in 1981. Dr. Rayman was manager of Singing Wilderness Concerts and was active in the Community Concert Series, Historical Society and Ely Nordic Ski Club. He was a member of Congregational and Presbyterian churches.

Survivors include five children, Tom, Fred and Sarah Kingston, all of Ely, and Carl and Laurel, both of Austin; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Florence Gunderson of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Sarah Marmeh of Miami, Fla.

Kerntz Brothers Funeral Home in Ely is in charge of arrangements.
