A 9-year-old Austin boy was struck by a vehicle Monday while he was attempting to cross a street on his bicycle.

According to Police Chief Paul Philipp, the boy was not injured in the accident, which occurred at 7:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest.

Philipp said the driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Austin woman, reported that she was driving southbound in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest when the boy rode his bike out in front of her car.

The woman told police she had glanced in the rearview mirror the same moment the boy crossed the street in front of her vehicle.

Philipp said the vehicle hit the back tire of the bike, causing the boy to fall to the ground.

No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The boy was transported home.
