DVD available of recent troops rally

rom staff reports

Rochester-area veterans are selling copies of a videotape of last month's Support Our Troops rally. A portion of the proceeds will aid overseas soldiers and their families.

The video, a DVD produced by MLT Group, shows the rally, held June 25 at the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial. Speakers included retired state Supreme Court Chief Justice Sandy Keith, Rep. Gil Gutknecht, and Vicki Bruce, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq.

A video costs $15, including shipping. The first $10 of each purchase offsets production costs, with the balance after shipping going to a local committee of volunteers interested in pro-troops causes.

That group has sent more than 300 care packages to soldiers overseas, and helped cover transportation costs for area families traveling to see their military sons and daughters, back from abroad at their stateside bases.

Terry Throndson, a local veteran, is leading the committee and can be reached at 289-2519.

The committee has not been formally constituted and does not yet have tax-exempt status, but will soon have both, Throndson said. In the meantime, video orders are being received by the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial.

To order, send a $15 check payable to Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial, to 201 Fourth St. S.E., Room 150, Rochester, MN 55904.
