Edna R. Nelson -- Lake City

LAKE CITY -- The funeral for Edna R. Nelson will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha, with the Rev. Barbara Knutson officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.

Mrs. Nelson, 70, of rural Lake City, formerly of Rochester, died of leukemia Friday (Sept. 5, 2003) at her home.

Edna R. Phipps was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Mount Vernon, S.D., and moved to Rochester with her family when she was 2 weeks old.

On Sept. 15, 1950, she married Virgil Nelson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. She was a homemaker and also worked in the family business, Virgil's Auto Clinic in Rochester.

The couple retired and moved to rural Lake City in 1986 and had wintered in Mesa, Ariz., since 1994. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mesa. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and crafts.

Survivors include her husband; five sons, Bruce (Bonnie), Brian (Sherrie), Brad (Vicki) Robert (Lavonne) and Ronald (Lori), all of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ratsch of Mesa, Ariz.; and two brothers, Richard Phipps of Mesa and Quentin (Hattie) Phipps of Longview, Texas. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Friends may call from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
