Kiwanis Student of the Month
Mayo High School
Noah Jacobson, son of Dyan and Steve Jacobson, has been selected as the Kiwanis Student of the Month for September by the Mayo High School Business Department.
Noah was nominated due to his positive attitude, excellent communication skills, work ethic, and interest in business. He has always been willing to go the extra mile academically, as well as completing independent tasks for the Spartan Shack and helping his peers.
Noah leads class discussions and teaches his peers concepts with which they might be struggling. He is a member of the Mayo Honor Society, UNICEF, FCA, Spartan 300, Student School Board, golf and hockey teams and the Spanish Honor Society. Noah is President of SOS (Support our Spartans) and he has earned a letter in Hockey and Student Government.
Additionally, Noah is a Barnes and Noble Writing Contest Regional winner and a Royal Lifesaving Society Certificate recipient, including aquatic leadership and lifesaving. Noah plans to attend Business School at the University of Minnesota.
Mayo High School
Ben Persons, son of Rosemary and Kenneth Persons, has been selected as the Kiwanis Student of the Month for October by the Mayo High School World Languages Department.
Ben was nominated because he accelerated himself through the Spanish program and studied in Spain. He now is pursuing Spanish Independent Study since he is beyond the normal courses. Ben is active in Student Government and is SED executive president. He is a TOPS mentor, Boys and Girls Club volunteer, captain of the boys soccer team and he started the LEAP club (Leaders for Environmental Awareness).
Ben has studied abroad in Spain through the ASSE program and is a Spanish tutor. He plans to study environmental studies and ecology in college while on a pre-med path. He wants to spend a few years with Doctors Without Borders in South America and he also hopes to start a non-profit that helps the homeless and the environment.
