People can cast their early votes in the upcoming Rochester Public Schools referendum. Beginning Sept. 20, absentee ballots will be available at the Edison Building, 615 Seventh St. SW, Room 121.
The Rochester School District is asking voters to support a two-question, $180 million bond referendum in the Nov. 5 General Election. The school board approved the absentee ballot location and times during the regular board meeting Tuesday evening.
The first question calls for $171.4 million to build a new middle school and elementary school and reconstruct two existing elementary schools to accommodate up to 720 students each. It also funds safety improvements to all school sites, additional land purchases for future elementary and high school growth, and auditorium upgrades at all three high schools.
The second question, which is contingent on the first question passing, calls for $9.5 million in bonds to close and repurpose the middle school pools, build a competition level pool at Century High School and update the pool diving area at Mayo High School.
People can request and cast an absentee ballot at the Edison Building Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. from Sept. 20 through Nov. 4.
