DULUTH — A former teacher and school board member in Superior, Wis., has been charged with having sexual contact with a teenager during a school trip to Minnesota.
The charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct against 65-year-old William Rehnstrand was filed in Hennepin County District Court on Thursday.
The criminal complaint says the alleged incident involved a 17-year-old boy and happened during a school-sponsored trip to Eden Prairie in August.
The incident came to the attention of the principal of Superior Senior High School — where Rehnstrand once taught history — who reported it to authorites.
Court documents say that when investigators questioned Rehnstrand, he admitted the sexual conduct with the boy. He also said he was the boy’s mentor.

Rehnstrand resigned from the Superior School Board on Sept. 22.
He was released without bail Thursday. He could not be reached for comment Friday. His telephone answering machine was not accepting messages.
