LAKE CITY — Lake City will have a primary this fall if more than two people file for an office because voters on Tuesday easily approved a change to the city’s charter to add the primary.
The vote was 464-117. Nineteen percent of the city’s 3,117 registered voters went to the polls.
The Lake City Charter Commission recommended the change in the wake of recent elections that have drawn a number of candidates. In 2004 and 2006, nine candidates ran for three seats on the city council. Also in 2004, there were five candidates running for mayor.
