Eleanor A. Whempner -- Lake City

LAKE CITY -- The funeral for Eleanor A. Whempner will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church in Lake City, with the Rev. David Badgley officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City.

Mrs. Whempner, 93, of Lake City, a homemaker, died Sunday (March 31, 2002) at Lake City Nursing Home.

Eleanor A. Haase was born Sept. 25, 1908, in Lake Township, Wabasha County, grew up in Lake City, and after attending Lake City schools worked for Jewell Nursery in Lake City. On Dec. 29, 1934, she married Everett Whempner in Red Wing and they lived in Lake City. He died Nov. 27, 1998. She was a member of First Congregational Church, did volunteer work for the church, and enjoyed music, football, playing cards, dancing and cooking.

Survivors include four daughters, Marsha (Gary) Alexander of Wausau, Wis., Phyllis (Adrian) Gilbert of Roseville, Minn., Janet Conrad of Glenview, Ill., and Judy (James) Srnec of Lake City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Harriet Erickson of Lake City and Edith Irvine of Minneapolis; and a brother, Ray Haase of Lake City. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call an hour before the service Thursday at the church.

Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
